UNESCO Chair of ESCS-IPL participates in International Literacy Day commemorative session

The holder of the UNESCO Chair in Communication, Media and Information Literacy, and Citizenship (ESCS-IPL), Fernanda Bonacho, participated on the 8th of September in the commemorative session for International Literacy Day organised by the Lisbon Geographical Society (SGL) in partnership with the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO and the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy. 

With a presentation entitled ”The Meaning of UNESCO’s International/World Days Celebrations, International Literacy Day, and Media Literacy”, the ESCS-IPL professor and LIACOM researcher joined Patrícia Ávila (ISCTE-IUL), who delivered an analysis on ”The State of Literacy in the World and in Portugal”, and Maria João Ferreira (Directorate-General for Maritime Policy, Ocean Literacy, and Escola Azul Programme), who addressed ”Promoting Ocean Literacy in the World and in Portugal.” 

The session was opened and closed by Luís Aires-Barros, president of the SGL, with an intervention by Marisa Lameiras da Silva, Director-General for Maritime Policy.
