ESCS joins “Eco-Escolas” exhibition in Benfica

On April 30th, the exhibition “Eco-Escolas” [Eco-Schools] was inaugurated at Palácio Baldaya, a showcase dedicated to sustainability and the environmental work carried out by the educational institutions in the parish of Benfica, from daycare centers to higher education.

The School of Communication and Media Studies (ESCS), of the Polytechnic University of Lisbon (IPL), contributes with some examples of the initiatives it has developed within the scope of its own Eco-Escolas program, which was launched in 2019.

On the opening day, Cláudia Silvestre, ESCS teacher and coordinator of the Eco-Escolas Council, presented the works on display.

The exhibition features the ESCS Eco-Code and its presentation posters, with graphics developed by undergraduate students in Audiovisual and Multimedia.

You can also learn about some of ESCS’s environmental awareness campaigns and Planeta ESCS actions, such as the Green Room, A journey to the circular economy, and Preserving biodiversity.

Finally, visitors can see some objects built in the context of the ESCS Eco-Escolas activities and materials from the Landscape Museum.

In addition to the work of ESCS, there are also projects on display from the Lisbon School of Education (ESELx), also part of IPL, and from other schools in the parish of Benfica, namely Pedro de Santarém Primary School, Quinta de Marrocos Primary School and Pedrita Kindergarten.

Biodiversity, recycling, reuse of materials and climate change are some of the themes represented.

The exhibition is open until May 7th in Sala do Desembargador of Palácio Baldaya, in Benfica. The admission is free.

Eco-Escolas is an international program run by the Foundation for Environmental Education and developed in Portugal since 1996 by ABAAE – Associação Bandeira Azul de Ambiente e Educação.
