Launched in 1992, the UNESCO UNITWIN Chairs Programme promotes cooperation and interconnection between universities at international level, with the aim of strengthening institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work.

These higher education institutions work in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), foundations and public and private sector organisation.
