UNESCO Chair at ESCS joins the presentation of book about ESELx Cultural Program

On December 18th, the ebook “Towards a Cultural Program at ESELx: Contributions from the Department of Arts and Design,” (“Para um Programa Cultural da ESELx: Contributos do Departamento de Artes e Design”, in the original) coordinated by Miguel Falcão, professor at the Lisbon School of Education (ESELx-IPL), was presented.

The publication, by professors of visual arts, technology, design, music, and theater at ESELx, aims to showcase “projects and actions that emerged in curricular units, courses, or structures of ESELx” and that, “in various ways, expanded to the community,” as can be read in the article about the book’s launch.

The book launch featured the participation of Fernanda Bonacho, holder of the UNESCO Chair in Communication, Media and Information Literacy and Citizenship (ESCS-IPL), and Joana Souza, a member of the Chair’s team, both professors at the School of Communication and Media Studies (ESCS-IPL) and researchers at LIACOM – Laboratory of Applied Research in Communication and Media.

For Fernanda Bonacho, this contribution “demonstrates that there is already a solid foundation for the creation of a true Cultural Program at ESELx”. “A program that I would like to see available every month at my school, right next door, and in the community, and to which I would also like to contribute through the Chair with a regular space for meeting and sharing,” the professor added.

In turn, Joana Souza, referring to the book as “a document of enormous value,” emphasized that these publications are born “from the generosity of those who are willing to document their processes with rigor and patience, and to systematize them in a shareable way,” allowing “other teachers to glimpse paths for the articulation of cultural and artistic practices with the community.”

The meeting was organized by the ebook coordinator, Miguel Falcão, and the coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Center for Educational Studies (CIED) at ESELx, Cristina Cruz.

The book is available online (in Portuguese) and can be downloaded directly from this link or through the CIED publications page.
